How to get Minecraft Amethyst Shards

Mining clusters of amethyst that have been linked to geodes can yield Minecraft Amethyst Shards. These shards can be used as fancy decorations or as crafting resources to make Spyglasses and Tinted Glass. You will need to know the details of how to maximize your shard gains and where to find Amethyst Geodes if you want to find these purple crystal shards. Here are the details about how to find and mine Amethyst Shards within Minecraft.

Where can I find Amethyst Geodes for Minecraft?

It's easiest to go underground and begin mining in Minecraft to find an Amethyst Geode. However, you don't have to go too deep. Amethyst geodes are available at Y-level -64 or Y-level 30. Because they are large and often cracked, geodes can be easy to spot. You might also see faint glowing lights from a distance.

While mining, be aware of smooth basalt. This is the dark outer layer in an Amethyst Geode. You can break through this layer to discover calcite. Then, continue to find amethyst. You'll find Blocks of Amethyst and Budding Amethyst as well as Amethyst Buds and Amethyst Clusters. Let's see which one is which:

How to get Amethyst Shards from Minecraft using Amethyst Clusters

Minecraft Netherite is extremely valuable, but it's much harder to find the Amesthyst Shards.

Amethyst Shards can be dropped from growing amethyst clusters. These clusters are found in Amethyst Geodes. You can mine amethyst clusters to get Minecraft Amethyst Shards in exchange, which can be used to craft certain items.

It is important to only mine fully grown ones. The smaller Minecraft Amethyst Buds will not drop any Amethyst Shards. An Amethyst Bud goes through three stages before it becomes an Amethyst Cluster. You can see them in the photo above.

Fully formed Amethyst clusters drop two Minecraft Amethyst Shards when broken using any other tool and four when mined using a pickaxe. The Fortune enchantment can increase the number of Amethyst Shards you get. Use the Silk Touch enchantment to pick up the cluster.

Budding Amethyst blocks are the best place to grow Minecraft Amethyst Clusters or Buds. They are easily identified by the cross-shapes on their sides. Budding Amethyst is not possible to mine, but you can return to find new-spawned Amethyst Buds. The other amethyst solid block is called a “Block of Amethyst” and can only be mined using a pickaxe. This block can only be used for decorative purposes and cannot grow Amethyst Buds. If you wish to use Amethyst Shards for more Minecraft Blocks of Amethyst, you can use them to make them.

You can make anything with Minecraft Amethyst Shards

Amethyst Shards are a new, posh building material. You can also use them to make the following items:

Spyglass: A Spyglass is made from one Amethyst Shard and two Copper Ingots. Spyglasses are great for zooming in on distant objects. Tinted Glass blocks light, but you can still see through it. It doesn't suffocate mobs but can be reused if broken.
Block of Amethyst – This is decorative only, as we have said before. You can create a Block of Amethyst with four Amethyst Shards.
It's time to find some Amethyst Shards so you can build your luxurious amethyst home!
